Fishing Report July 13, 2017 – Marlin!

Got another report from Hooked on Panama.

This week we had John Thomas and his kids Alec and Victoria. Their main focus was marlin. John really wanted to get a 400lb. plus on this trip. We raised 6 total, hooked 4 and released 2 with John’s right at the 400lb. range.

Also got a handful of nice yellow fin tunas, could have gotten a ton more because the tuna bite continues to be great, but the focus was marlin. Also got a couple of dorado and one of them was a beast about 65lbs. Photos below.

Victoria bonded with our new puppy, Kai the wonder dog. John entertained everyone with the most amazing card tricks any of us have seen and the kitchen staff couldn’t believe it.

We are working on their return next season in either Jan. or Feb. for the sailfish run. For everyone else out there, keep in mind the beginning of the rainy season. We always get a bad wrap, but the months of May, June and July, you might get rained on a bit, but the tuna run has been nuts. Last week we got 33 yellow fin in one day all in the 30 to 80lb. range and all within 30 miles from the lodge and sometimes much closer. I will have another report from last week, just waiting on some photos to be sent to me.

Also, the main months of January, February and March are filling up fast, so if you guys want to get in on the upcoming season you might want to start looking at dates soon.

Next season will be the second year after El Nino and historically the next few years should be red hot.

Until next week, tight lines.
