Fishing Report December 24, 2017

Happy New Year from Hooked on Panama Lodge!

We started our fishing season on Christmas Eve with Jim Dunnigan and Crystal Chow fishing with us for 6 days. Jim is an avid fishermen and he brought all his own gear with him. He had Captain Victor drooling over his lures. Jim really wanted Crystal to land a marlin while here.

Well, Crystal not only released her first blue marlin she scored a trifecta by also releasing a sailfish and a striped marlin, which is very rare for Panama! She also landed a huge dorado and a yellowfin tuna. They released several more sails and dorado. I didn’t get the photo of the striped marlin, but I did see it on their camera, so when Jim sends it to me I’ll post it. I did get a photo of Crystal’s giant dorado, I just wish she was standing up next to it 🙂 Jim wants to come back this May or June so Crystal can get her first 100lb. + yellowfin tuna!

We also had Wes and Kyra Hudson and their two girls Skye and Tessa and Wes’s sister Maria Hudson here the day after Christmas visiting their parents Rex and Connie Hudson. They fished for 2 ½ days. They released 3 sailfish, 2 roosterfish, lost a marlin, and boated some dorado and yellowfin tuna. They raised a ton more sailfish. Skye and Tessa had their first trip out for deep sea fishing and landed their first yellowfin tunas! Both groups said there was a lot of life out there with bird piles, dolphins, pilot whales and the water temperature is running cooler.

We’ve had a one-boat cancellation for the week of Feb. 24th. – Mar 3rd. 2018 with up to 5 days fishing available that week for up to 4 anglers, if anyone is interested in a peak season trip, contact Fred Stephens in our reservation office.

Wishing everybody a very Healthy & Happy New Year!

Tight lines,
Gay Peavy
