Fishing Report for May 31st

Here we go again. Another great week at Hooked on Panama Lodge. Dan and Judy Hunsaker, with their friend Stephen Shell, returned for their third trip to Hooked on Panama Lodge.

The tuna bite is still going off. Now, they only got 15 yellow fin tuna from 60 to 130LBS. But, Dan wanted me to explain, that the lower count was because, when you have a 100 pounder on spinning gear and it takes an hour and a half to land the thing, it doesn’t leave much time for catching more:) That is over 22 hours of combined fighting time.

They also got 4 nice dorados, and, got into a school of rainbow runners all in the 20lb. range and caught at least a dozen. Our local police friends were really happy with some fresh fish.

Pulled up to another shrimp boat. Traded 1/2 case of beer and 1/2 case of coke for 15lbs. of fresh shrimp. At least we are eating something besides tuna, thank God. Margot, the chef, made her Panamanian version of seafood soup. It was a hit that night for dinner.

Got another family here right now and today is their last day. So, I’ll have another report in a few days. Also have my family here with me and I will be taking my daughter Alexia fishing tomorrow:) She notified me she wants to catch a snapper

We had Wim, Edwin and Kim from the Netherlands. Wim has been fishing with us for several years now. They fished with Captain Victor and Mate Jacinto on the Chiricana for 3 days.

Yeehaw!!! Here we go again. Another report from Hooked on Panama Lodge. We have Mike ( the warden ) and his lovely bride Brenda ( AKA the Fish Goddess ) fishing with us this week. They did 5 days total with some days off in between. It was a great week.

The day started off slow, but ended with a bang. 6 Yellow Fin Tuna with the smallest around 100LBS. and the biggest topped out at around 200LBS.

On the last day we saw a whale and it’s calf right by the boat – we actually hooked it as it swam by (in its tail no doubt) but it obviously broke the line. It allows us to say that we nearly caught a whale!

It’s been a long year for everyone and we hope all our friends are doing well and staying healthy! Finally back to some fishing here at Hooked on Panama Lodge. We just had Craig Waltzer and his gang Dave, Jose, Luigi and Hew here from Florida fishing for two days. Craig fished with us last March right before the Covid lockdown.

Jan. 14 -17, 2013, We had Fishing with Larry’s hosted trip with Brad Staples as host of the group. They were here for 4 days of fishing and the group consisted of 10 anglers.
